A Suffolk worker was served a warrant for reckless handling of a firearm after allegedly forgetting his gun was in his pocket and accidentally shooting himself in the leg.
The incident happened Sunday morning. An officer responded to Sentara Obici Hospital at 7:42 a.m. regarding a man who arrived in the emergency room with a gunshot wound to his leg.
Ronald Edward Bailey, 44, told police he was at work in the 1300 block of Progress Road and didn’t remember his gun was in his pocket. After removing it, he accidentally discharged the weapon.
He drove himself to the hospital, and following his treatment, authorities transported him to Western Tidewater Regional Jail, where the warrant was served.
