A Suffolk grand jury indicted 69 defendants on 223 charges Monday, including a man accused of attempted murder in an attack on a jail officer.

Maurice Dontrell Boykins, 27, allegedly attacked two officers with a razor blade he had hidden away after it had been issued to him to shave, according to jail Superintendent William Smith.

The incident happened Oct. 5. One of the officers received a gash about 4 to 5 inches long on his cheek, and the other officer was not injured.

He was in Western Tidewater Regional Jail awaiting sentencing on a 2013 shooting that injured two people at a West Constance Road shopping center.

Also among the defendants indicted are four of the five people accused of multiple vandalisms in October, including at Sleepy Hole Golf Course and the Suffolk Youth Athletic Association.

Blame Sebastian Washington Jr., Aaron M. Underhill, Noah C. Rivera and Stephanie Marie Drames are indicted on multiple charges related to the incidents.

At Suffolk Youth Athletic Association, doors were kicked in, a safe with at least $750 was stolen, sports gear was stolen and supplies were strewn outside, among other damages.

Damage at Sleepy Hole Golf Course totaled more than $100,000 and included broken glass doors, a flooded floor in the snack bar, damage to pro shop merchandise and damage to the course caused by golf carts driven recklessly around the course.

Charges for a fifth person arrested in the cases, Toby Underhill, were only certified to the grand jury from General District Court on Tuesday.
