Warriors get first conference win

The Nansemond River High School boys’ basketball team recovered from a 12-point deficit in the third quarter on Tuesday to defeat visiting Phoebus High School by the score of 60-51.

“We really took off in the fourth quarter,” Warriors coach Ed Young said, after his team outscored the Phantoms 18-5 in the period. “Paul Hall had eight of his career-high 16 in the fourth quarter.”

Fellow senior Aaron Parker and junior Colby Williams played great defense on one of Phoebus’ key scorers to help the Warriors take over in the second half.

NR junior Josh Covington, who started the game, finished with 22 points, shooting 50 percent from the field, and he also had a career-high eight rebounds.

Senior Keion Roberts contributed 10 points and eight rebounds, and though Parker only had six points, they came via two three-pointers delivered in key parts of the game.

Nansemond River (9-11, 1-7) visits King’s Fork High School (13-7, 6-2) on Friday.
