A Suffolk mother was arrested this week after being indicted on charges of malicious wounding, abuse and neglect of children and cruelty and injuries to children.

Shante Monique Kindred, 26, is charged after her 5-year-old son was observed at school on Oct. 16 with injuries to his upper body consistent with being struck with a belt, city spokeswoman Diana Klink said.

School officials contacted police and Child Protective Services, who handed the investigation.
