The Nansemond River High School boys’ and girls’ swimming teams emerged Friday as Ironclad Conference champions for the second consecutive year.
“I think they actually did very well,” NR coach Shamus Riley said. “Out of 70 possible entries per team, we had 66 qualify for regional championships on Monday.”
Senior Cody Edwards broke the Nansemond River school record in the 200-yard freestyle at the championship meet this week. School records also were broken by the girls’ 400-yard freestyle relay and boys’ 200-yard freestyle relay, the latter of which qualified for states.
Others qualifying for states included senior Michael Betts in the 100-yard breaststroke, junior Logan Eubanks in the 200-yard individual medley and the boys’ 400-yard freestyle relay team.
King’s Fork High School’s boys’ and girls’ swimming teams finished as runners up in the Ironclad Conference.
