Vincent receives scholarship

Kayla I. Vincent was the 2014 recipient of the Addie M. Word Scholarship, which is presented annually by the Association of Ministers’ Wives and Ministers’ Widows of Suffolk and Vicinity.
Vincent is a 2014 graduate of King’s Fork High School, where she was class valedictorian with a cumulative grade point average of 4.133. She currently is a student at the University of Virginia, where she is majoring in chemistry and plans to pursue a career as a dermatologist.
She is a member of East End Baptist Church, where she is active in many youth ministries and organizations.
Eligibility requirements for the scholarship included completing high school credits with good academic standing, as well as having good character and high moral standards. The student must also be active in church and community activities.
The scholarship in the amount of $500 is given in memory of Mrs. Addie Word, who organized the Ministers’ Wives and Ministers’ Widows of Suffolk and served as the first president.
