To the Editor:

The proposed use of the former Obici property for a housing development is very disturbing to many Suffolk citizens.

Current residents in developments located in or near the core city need outdoor space for their families to enjoy. Let us seize this rare opportunity to undertake a project that would create a legacy.

Suffolk needs a signature green space park that will define our commitment to the health of our citizens and to the stewardship of our environment.

To develop a plan for this remarkable property for the use of all citizens will be challenging, yet rewarding. Rewarding, not in anticipated tax revenue but in having given a far richer gift to our children and grandchildren, the example of stewardship.

A green space to equal no other can be realized with minor transformation to the property.

There are times, when faced with difficult decisions, our city seeks the easiest path to a solution. This should not be one of those times.
