An open house at The Pruden Center for Industry and Technology on Tuesday will inform students and parents about what the regional public school has to offer, center director Corey McCray said.
McCray said the target audience of the annual event, from 5 to 8 p.m., is all middle school students, and high school students in grades nine and 10. That’s because students enroll in programs in their junior or senior year of high school.
“We have been seeing an uptick in enrollment,” McCray said. “For a lot of our programs, students need to get in early.”
Included at the open house will be informational displays about the center’s various programs, which are aimed at preparing students for careers or college, he said.
There will be opportunity to speak to teachers, and conversation about “what the career trajectory is for students who attend The Pruden Center,” McCray added.
McCray said the open house has been a tradition for as long as he can remember. “We have really ramped up our focus on letting the community know about it, because it’s really one of our assets,” he said.
“The event is open to everyone to come out and see what we do.”
The center, located at 4169 Pruden Blvd., serves Suffolk’s three public high schools as well as the two in Isle of Wight County.
