Bothered about the EDA meeting

To the editor:

I’ve been bothered all week. I’ll tell you why.

I attended the Economic Development Authority meeting last Tuesday.

During the meeting, misleading information was given to the board members about the Jan. 28 Obici site public meeting. The numbers that attended were understated by 50 percent, when in fact over 300 people came and signed a petition for a park.

Also, misleading information about the traffic issues on Main Street was given to the authority.

The citizens’ concerns about the Obici site were glossed over and then dismissed.

Not one board member made a comment. Why not? This was the only topic on the agenda that did not have any discussion. I would have thought with all the public outcry and letters to the newspaper that some discussion should have taken place.

Isn’t the board there to represent the people of Suffolk? Do the citizens’ concerns count for anything?

It is EDA policy not to place agendas and minutes on the website. Why not? Also the February’s meeting was not published on the website when it should have been. Why wasn’t it?

The EDA is part of the city of Suffolk. Therefore, aren’t they to be considered city employees serving the people of Suffolk?

So, yes, I am bothered.
