Suffolk boys take second in state hoop shoot

Mason Beddingfield and Hayden Jones, both of Suffolk, finished as runners up in their respective divisions during the recent Virginia State Hoop Shoot in Charlottesville.

The event featured boys and girls from ages 8 to 13 representing different Elks lodges in the state as they participated in a free throw shooting contest.

The contestants were divided into three age divisions for boys and three for girls, and each youth took 25 shots.

Beddingfield and Jones each made 18 out of 25 attempts. Beddingfield took second in the 12- to 13-year-old boys division, and Jones took the same in the 8- to 9-year-old boys division.

They made it to the Virginia State Hoop Shoot after winning their divisions at the Virginia Elks Southeast District Hoop Shoot hosted by Suffolk Elks Lodge No. 685 in January.

State winners advanced to a regional-level contest in Frederick, Md., scheduled for March 14.
