To the editor:
I am writing to express my excitement about the arts in Suffolk Public Schools.
On March 3, my wife and I attended the Suffolk Education Foundation’s inaugural “Masquerade: A Celebration of the Arts in Suffolk Public Schools.”
The sold-out crowd was treated to a visual and listening experience that has never graced Suffolk before.
The masks on display created by students of all grade levels and the music performed by middle and high school students and their music teachers (instrumental, dance and vocal groups) were a gift for the eyes and ears. Those attending had an opportunity to experience the arts firsthand.
Despite cuts to the arts budget, the talented students and teachers have thrived. Where else in Suffolk could you have found the mayor, members of the City Council and members of the School Board seated side by side taking in another thing that makes Suffolk a truly great place to live and attend school.
Special thanks to the Suffolk Education Foundation, Suffolk Public Schools and the student and teacher artists for putting together an event that showcased Suffolk Public Schools at their best.
Another great moment in Suffolk history.
