Police ID body found in lake, make arrests

Suffolk police have announced a body found in a North Suffolk lake on March 9 has been identified as a Portsmouth man who has been missing since January.

Donta L. Williams, 22, was last seen by his family Jan. 20.

The Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled the death a homicide.

Police have arrested two men in connection with the discovery of the body.

Kyle Lamar Purvis, 21, of Portsmouth, was arrested Tuesday evening on charges of first-degree murder; shoot, stab, cut or wound; and conspiracy to commit a felony. He currently is being held at the Hampton Roads Regional Jail.

On Wednesday afternoon, police also arrested Tremayne L. Johnson, 25, of Suffolk, on the same charges. He currently is being held in Western Tidewater Regional Jail.

Williams’ body was spotted by a Department of Defense employee on the afternoon of March 9. The lake in the 100 block of Lakeview Parkway is near a Department of Defense facility.

The Suffolk Police Department is investigating the crime in cooperation with Portsmouth police, city spokeswoman Diana Klink said.
