Q&A with Dr. Carletta N. Perry

Q: What color is love? How come people cannot accept my interracial relationship?

A: Love is colorless. I strive to teach principles that are true for every relationship and every marriage — healthy communication, conflict management, financial stability, trust and fidelity, and so forth.

However, we do not live in a colorless world. Our America the beautiful is made up of multiple cultures, various races, a rainbow of skin tones and so much more, but beauty is often in the eyes of the beholder.

What do you see when you see a person of one ethnicity dating a person from another ethnicity? What are you really thinking? Research shows that some cultures are more accepting of interracial relationships, but there is still the old “stick-to-your-own” kind of thinking.

At the end of the day, be sure you and your partner love one another and practice the principles I mentioned earlier. This way, you ensure the beauty of your love is maintained in the eyes of the beholders.
