Show us your pets

If you have a pet, you probably know the look — the look of contentment a pet has when it knows it’s loved and that its human is the best person in the world. It’s in the eyes, in the way it holds its mouth, in the springiness of its tail. And it’s the kind of thing a dog or cat gets only from being part of a family.

Perhaps you’ve seen that look on your own. Maybe you’ve caught the look on camera. If so, we’ve got the perfect opportunity for you. The Suffolk News-Herald Priceless Pets Photo Contest is a chance for you to show the world just how photogenic Fido (or Fluffy) really is.

For just $10, you can enter your pet, and $2 of that fee will go to Suffolk Humane, which is gearing up for its annual Mutt Strut fundraising event May 3, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Arrowhead YMCA Conference and Outdoor Center on Kenyon Road. Visitors to the contest website also can register for Mutt Strut there. The contest entry period closes at midnight April 19, and voting is already open, so don’t wait.

Visit www.suffolknewsherald.com and click on the “Priceless Pets” tab to register and then you can upload your photo, pay the fee and get ready to see who’s really the top dog in Suffolk. Be sure to get your friends to click through, too. They can vote up to 10 times a day, and you can share the contest with all your Facebook friends and Twitter followers to harness the power of social networking on your pooch’s behalf.

Winners will be announced at Mutt Strut, where they will be presented with trophies and other goodies. They will also be featured in the Suffolk News-Herald’s Priceless Pets special section, set for publication April 30.
