The North Suffolk Walmart was evacuated briefly on Monday for a small fire, according to city of Suffolk spokeswoman Diana Klink.

Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to the store at Harbour View East for a reported “small fire in the freezer area in the deli.”

Dispatchers received a call at 11:07 a.m. advising that the store had been evacuated, according to Klink, and the first units arrived on scene at 11:11 a.m.

“Upon arrival of firefighters it was determined that the heat strip around the freezer door in the deli section had malfunctioned,” Klink stated. The small fire was already out when firefighters arrived and power was secured, she added.  No injuries were reported.

The store was cleared to reopen at 11:30 a.m.

Ladder 5, Engines 5, 10 and 25, Battalion 2 as well as Medic 10A responded. Other units that were responding were canceled once the extent of the issue was learned.

The Suffolk Police Department provided security at the scene.
