Suffolk Civil War tours planned

First Baptist Church and the Suffolk-Nansemond Historical Society will host spring Civil War battlefield tours this weekend.
Tours of Suffolk Civil War battlefields will be given in the morning and afternoon on Saturday and on Sunday afternoon.
The morning tour will leave the Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad Museum at 9:30 a.m. and return around 11:30 a.m.
This tour will include the Nansemond River Overlook, the Fort Connecticut site, Deserted House battlefield, and the G.W. Smith home site. The cost will be $12 per person for FBC members and SNHS members or $13 for non-members.
The afternoon tours will leave the train station at 1 p.m. and return around 4 p.m. These tours will include the Nansemond River Overlook, Fort Stevens, Fort Rosecrans, and Hill’s Point Battery. There will be a considerable amount of walking through woods and up and down hills.
The cost for the afternoon tours will be $15 per person for FBC members and SNHS members or $17 for non-members.
Reservations may be made by calling Suffolk Nansemond Historical Society at 539-2781 or Kermit Hobbs at 539-1674. Reservations will only be secured when they are paid.
