Player of the week nominations

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:
- Jake Hardy, sophomore for Lakeland High School baseball: He made key contributions both offensively and defensively on Tuesday to help the Cavaliers achieve their first win of the 2015 season. In addition to spending some time on the mound, he also went 2-for-3 at the plate, producing the game-winning RBI single in a 7-6 comeback home victory against Heritage High School.
- Cydney Nichols, sophomore for King’s Fork High School soccer: She continued to be a potent force on offense for the Lady Bulldogs by scoring five goals across two different non-conference games this past week. She scored twice in Wednesday’s 4-3 road win against Smithfield High School, and she recorded a hat trick in Monday’s 5-1 road win against Churchland High School.
- Michael Cornette, junior for Suffolk Christian Academy baseball: His team seemed overwhelmed, in an 8-0 hole after one and a half innings on Tuesday against visiting Brunswick Academy, and he helped turned the tide. He took the mound in the third and held the Vikings to three hits and no runs the rest of the game, while the Knights’ offense produced 18 unanswered runs for a wild blowout win.
