Elizabeth Vaughan Saunders

Elizabeth Vaughan Saunders, formerly of Rescue, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2015, at Care One of Evesham, N.J. She was 101.

She was born in Chuckatuck on Oct. 21,1913, to Marvin and Essie Ellis Vaughan. She attended Chuckatuck High School and Keys Business School. She retired after many years from Smithfield Packing Company, Smithfield. She was also a member of the Smithfield Baptist Church and the B.L. Wells Sunday School class. In 2001, she moved to Mount Laurel, N.J., to live with her daughter, Jeanette Wallace, and son-in-law James H. (Jim) Wallace.

Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Godwin Vaughan, of Portsmouth.

She was survived not only by daughter, Jeanette Wallace, and son-in-law, Jim, but also by daughter, Anita Acey, of Lumberton, N.C., grandsons, Bart Drummond, of Gloucester Point, and Eric Cochran, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; seven great-grandchildren: (Bart’s) Anna, Stephanie, Mark, Andrea, Derek; (Eric’s) Samantha and Courtney; great-great-grandson Brantly (Courtney’s). She is also survived by a cousin, Edwin Vaughan, of Suffolk; nephew, Richard Vaughan, of Portsmouth, and great-nephew, Brandon Vaughan, also of Portsmouth; two very special ladies, Lisa Drummond, of Newport News, and Cynthia Odden, of Williamsburg.

Arrangements are in the care of The Mount Laurel Home for Funerals with inurnment at a later date at Holly Lawn Cemetery in Suffolk.
