A South Carolina woman has pleaded guilty to prostituting a teen in Suffolk and Virginia Beach.
Doriean Barberi, 37, of Greenville, S.C., pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday to charges of transporting a minor across state lines for prostitution purposes.
She was indicted by a federal grand jury on Dec. 3 and faces a maximum penalty of life in prison.
According to court documents, Barberi first came to the attention of the Virginia Beach Police Department in September 2014. She was posting advertisements on www.backpage.com for herself and a 17-year-old girl, offering their sexual services at a local hotel, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Barberi confessed to bringing the girl to Virginia and first working in Suffolk before they moved to Virginia Beach. Barberi would set up appointments for the teen, and the minor gave Barberi all of the money she was paid for having sex with customers, according to the court documents.
