George Edwards Jones Sr., 71, of 1001 Drum Hill Road, Gates, N.C., died Wednesday, May 6, 2015, in North Carolina. He was a native of North Carolina and the son of the late Willie and Doris Jones.

He attended Gates County Public Schools. Mr. Jones retired as a welder from Newport News Shipbuilding and a former employee of Walmart.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Mary L. Jones; one daughter, Linda J. Reid (Dennis), of Gates, N.C.; three sons, George Jones Jr. (Esther), of Smithfield, David Nathaniel Jones (Malisa), of Aulander, N.C., and Anthony Jones, of Newport News; three sisters and five brothers; other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Thursday, May 14, 2015, at New Mt. Joy Food For Living Ministries officiated by Bishop Viola Parker. Interment will be in Jones Cemetery, Gates, N.C. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
