NSA softball charges past Highland

The Highland School softball team saw its season end on Tuesday via a 17-5 loss in six innings to visiting Nansemond-Suffolk Academy during the VISAA Division II state quarterfinals.
Lady Saints freshman pitcher Emerson Puzey improved to 5-1 in the circle, and she went 2-for-4 at the plate, with four runs batted in.
Sophomore Delaney Taylor led the way offensively for NSA, going 5-for-5 with two RBIs. Freshman Madi Wilson went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and senior Bridget Murphy went 3-for-4.
Junior Katie Peelen, Nansemond-Suffolk’s usual starting pitcher, returned to the diamond as a designated player, her first action since spraining her ankle in the conference tournament semifinals on May 7.
Greenbrier Christian Academy now awaits the Lady Saints (14-7) in the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II state semifinals set for this evening at the Dinwiddie Sports Complex in Sutherland.
The Lady Gators beat NSA 9-0 in its regular season finale on May 4 and won 9-7 against the Lady Saints in the conference tournament championship on Friday.
