Don’t make a dreadful mistake

To the editor:
Having lived in Suffolk for more than 50 years, I am chagrined that I continue to hear the mantra, “Our city fathers sold our water.”
Wrong! The city of Suffolk never owned the lakes. They were private property. Granted, though, the loss of these valuable water sources is a travesty of lasting proportion and a dreadful mistake.
The Louise Obici Memorial Hospital site on North Main Street is another once-in-a-lifetime asset.
I urge the Suffolk City Council to please use foresight and refrain from making another dreadful mistake by filling this property with second-rate apartments that can only bring short-term gain and will generate lasting problems.
