Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:
- Erin Bonney, sophomore for Nansemond River High School tennis: She was an Ironclad Conference champion twice over this past week. She defeated freshman teammate Zion McCoy 6-0, 6-0 in the conference singles tournament final and, together with McCoy, won the conference doubles tournament. They defeated the No. 2 Lady Warriors doubles team 6-1, 6-4 in the doubles final.
- Jack Boswell and Lincoln Kerlee, seniors for Lakeland High School tennis: They worked their way through the competition in the Ironclad Conference doubles tournament this past week and defeated Denbigh High School’s Josh Ramey and Donovan Calupitan on Friday in Newport News to claim the conference championship.
- Josh Bush, junior for King’s Fork High School baseball: He was a steady presence for the Bulldogs this past week on offense. In Tuesday’s 11-2 road win over Lakeland High School, he went 3-for-4 with three doubles. Despite Thursday’s 8-4 home loss to cross-city rival Nansemond River High School, he got his team’s first hit of the contest, breaking up what had been a perfect game on the mound for the Warriors.
