Ransome awarded Morris scholarship

Lindsay Alexis Ransome, a King’s Fork High School senior, is the recipient of the $1,000 Lewis F. Morris Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was presented at the King’s Fork Senior Awards Program on May 20.

Morris was a well-respected teacher, coach and principal of Chuckatuck School from 1952 to 1965, who was a leader, friend and motivator.

Ransome maintained a 3.21 grade point average while playing varsity soccer and being a varsity cheerleader her entire high school career. She displayed outstanding leadership skills as captain of the soccer team and cheer squad. Her organizational skills were evident in her ability to juggle numerous school activities and be involved in various volunteer programs in the community.

Ransome was recognized for sportsmanship with the Bulldog Award and as first-team all-conference in soccer. Outside of school, some of her activities included volunteering at YMCA summer camp, summer league basketball, Lake Prince Woods, and Sentara Leigh Hospital, as well as participating in youth choir and serving as a youth usher.

Ransome was an honor graduate this spring and has been accepted and plans to attend Barton College next year, where she plans to pursue a career in nursing. The scholarship award will be sent directly to Barton College.
