Rachel Whitehurst Savage

GATES, N.C. — Rachel Whitehurst Savage, 92, of 555 Drum Hill Road, died Wednesday, June 10, 2015, in Autumn Care of Suffolk.
Mrs. Savage was born in Gates County on July 20, 1922, and was the daughter of the late Joseph Bonnie and Margaret Howell Whitehurst. A homemaker, she was a member of Savage’s United Methodist Church and had formerly been active in the Gates County Home Demonstration Clubs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Thomas Savage Sr.; her daughter-in-law, June Savage; and by a sister, Jakie Spake.
Surviving are two sons, W.T. “Tommy” Savage Jr., of Suffolk, and Steven Howell Savage and wife, Rhonda, of Herndon; two sisters, Barbara Allen, of Gates, and Muriel Twine, of Belvidere; and four grandchildren, Lucas Savage, Bethany Riddick and husband Emory, Graham C. Savage and Daniel A. Savage.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Savage’s United Methodist Church by the Rev. Mike Askew. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, and all other times at the home of Tommy Savage, 1640 Great Fork Road, Suffolk.
