Mail truck, tanker crash

A two-vehicle accident in the 900 block of Carolina Road had the roadway completely closed for part of Monday afternoon.

The accident in the 900 block involved a U.S. Postal Service truck and an empty tanker truck. It happened at 4:11 p.m., according to a city press release.

The male driver of the mail truck was airlifted by Nightingale to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The male driver of the tanker truck was taken by ground ambulance to Sentara Obici Hospital, also with injuries not considered life-threatening.

Traffic was detoured around the crash for about an hour, according to the release. Two southbound lanes and one northbound lane are now open. Crews continue to work to remove the vehicles and power lines from the roadway.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
