Vernon Lee Russell

Vernon Lee Russell, 87, of Suffolk, went home to be with the Lord and to be reunited with his first wife, mother of his sons, Eleanor B. Russell, on June 24, 2015. He will be missed by many who loved him. Vernon was a kind and loving husband to his wife of 38 years, Charlene N. Russell, and a caring, nurturing and loving father to his sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was born in Somerton to the late Harvey Lee Russell and Ella Mae Holly Russell. Vernon was predeceased by his brother, Harvey Edward Russell. Vernon retired as shop foreman from Suffolk Equipment Company after 37 years of service. He was a member of Cypress Chapel Christian Church and the New Hope Bible Class. He was an usher, deacon emeritus, and chairman of the Visitation Team. He was also a member of Cypress Ruritan Club for 23 years with 22 years of perfect attendance.

Vernon is also survived by his sons, Vernon Ray Russell (Ellen), Steven Michael Russell (Kathy); grandchildren, Joshua “Josh” Brandon Russell (Jennifer), Courtney Russell Mata (Rolando), Matthew “Matt” Russell; great-grandchildren, Juliana Marie Mata, Wyatt Ray Russell, Madison Ella Russell; sisters, Sarah Ann Copeland, Shirley Deans; sister-in-law, Jackie Russell; brother, Dalton Russell; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held Saturday, June 27, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Cypress Chapel Christian Church with the Rev. Tommy Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow in Cypress Chapel Christian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory. Memorial donations may be made to Cypress Chapel Christian Church Cemetery Fund, 1891 Cypress Chapel Road, Suffolk, VA 23434.  Condolences may be registered online at www.parrfuneralhome.com.
