Kevin Myron Drayton, 49, of 305 Oak St. entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at Sentara Obici Hospital.

Kevin was born on July 17, 1965, to the late Robert and Connie Drayton. He was also preceded in death by his sister and brother Vicki and Rodney “Rock” Drayton.

Kevin attended John F. Kennedy High School and worked at the Norfolk Naval Hospital until his health began to fail.

He was a deacon at Tabernacle Baptist Outreach Center under the leadership of Rev. Trevon D. Boone. He also served in the male choir until his health began to fail. During his earlier years, Kevin was a member of New Mt. Joy FFLM, under the leadership of the late Bishop William P. Wiggins Sr. and later under the leadership of Bishop Viola H. Parker.

Kevin will be missed by his devoted wife, Cheryl Parker-Drayton; three sons, Kevin Powell, Deon James (Chantez), and Renardo “Dre” James; nine grandchildren; five brothers, Andre Drayton Sr. (Ebony), Jonathan Saunders (Niecy), Eugene Boone (Amy), Robert Drayton Jr. (Cynthia), and Darryl Davis; three sisters, Lisa Allmond (Dwayne), Andria Hicks (Fred), and Mechelle; and many other family members and close friends.

A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, at the funeral home. The family will receive visitors at the residence at all other times. A celebration of life service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, June 29, at New Mt. Joy FFLM, 307 County St. He will be laid to rest at Carver Memorial Cemetery.
