Citing the threat of severe weather throughout the day and evening, the Suffolk Department of Parks and Recreation has canceled tonight’s TGIF party, which was scheduled to be held at Constant’s Wharf Park and Marina.
The National Weather Service is forecasting a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout Friday afternoon and evening.
Saturday’s forecast calls showers and thunderstorms likely in the afternoon. The chance of precipitation is 50 percent or better throughout the day and evening, according to the weather service.
A special weather statement issued at 3:10 p.m. Friday notes that there is a slight chance for severe thunderstorms, with the risk of large hail, damaging winds and heavy rainfall.
The city’s weekly summer concert calendar resumes its schedule next week, with a special Saturday event, the Stars & Stripes Spectacular Celebration.
The band Affirmative Groove will take the stage at Constant’s Wharf at 6 p.m., and the fireworks will begin at 9 p.m. The park opens at 5:30 p.m. with merchant and food vendors and a children’s play area with bounce houses and games.
A shuttle will be running between the park and the old Fresh Pride parking lot on Constance Road, the First Baptist Church lot on Main Street and the Godwin Courts building lot.
TGIF returns to its regular Friday schedule on July 10, when the Rhythm Express Band takes the stage and the National Night Out Duck Pluck offers fun for all ages.
