Charles Ashby Kincaid Sr.

Charles Ashby Kincaid, 85, died Saturday, July 11, 2015, unexpectedly and peacefully while vacationing in Bath County. He resided in Suffolk for 69 years and in Chapel Hill, N.C., for the past three years. Ashby was born on April 7, 1930, in Peoria, Ill., to the late Charles Lester and Evelyn Collins Kincaid.
Survivors include two children, Charles Ashby Kincaid Jr. (Reba Kincaid) and Karen Kincaid Dunn (Kenny Dunn); sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Phil Garrett; stepdaughter, Gloria Orrock; step-great-grandson, Tyler McClendon; in-laws, Richard Henry Barnes, Bessie Reynolds (Perry Reynolds), Mary Lee Warren (Dean Warren); nephews, David Kincaid, Michael Reynolds and Mark Reynolds; special friends, Rebecca and Sally Irvine, Bobby and Judy Smith, Jim and Susie Pearce, and Sandy Asble; and Ashby’s corgi canine companion, Toby.
Ashby was predeceased by his first wife, Rosa Lane Barnes Kincaid; his brother, William Collins Kincaid; step-granddaughter, Michelle McClendon; nephew, Stephen Kincaid; and second wife, Frances Briggs Kincaid.
Ashby served in the U.S. Army as a map printer and was stationed in Tokyo, Japan during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard with 31 years of service. His last position was production controller for overhaul of the aircraft carrier Eisenhower.
Ashby enjoyed photography, painting, woodworking, gardening, archery, reading and especially fishing with friends, Bill Morgan and Bill Goode.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 18, 2015, from 2 to 3 p.m. at R.W. Baker & Company, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, VA 23434, with the service immediately following at 3 p.m. Burial will be at the Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made in memory of Ashby to Club Nova Community Inc. 103 D W. Main St., Carrboro, NC 27510
