A former chairman of the Isle of Wight County School Board has been charged with stealing more than $200,000 from an elderly person living in the mobile home park he manages.
On Tuesday, the county sheriff’s office announced investigators served 17 felony warrants on Kent E. Hildebrand.
The warrants came after the sheriff’s office collaborated with the Isle of Wight County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office on an investigation over the course of several months, according to a news release.
Investigators allege Hildebrand stole more than $200,000 from the victim over seven years. He faces 15 grand larceny charges and one count each of credit card fraud and identity theft.
Hildebrand resigned from the School Board in mid-March. Investigators say there is no evidence he stole any school funds.
Currently being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail with no bond, Hildebrand is set to appear in Isle of Wight General District Court on Thursday afternoon for a bond hearing.
