The show, which will showcase the artistic talents of people from all over the Hampton Roads area, will last through Sept. 4. The exhibit will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Jackie Cherry, the executive director of the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts, said the event is a chance to spotlight artists from around the area, with featured submissions coming from everywhere from Suffolk to Franklin to Virginia Beach.

Cherry said the exhibit features a diverse showing of art, with oil paintings, pastels, photography and more. Even though the exhibit is showcasing the talents of Tidewater, the art, especially the photography, draws inspiration from all over the world.

“Jose Hernandez, who is a local artist, has photography in the exhibit from all over the world,” Cherry said.

Cherry said the Taste of Tidewater show is planned to coincide with the Suffolk Mystery Authors Festival on Aug. 22. The second annual festival will have 24 best-selling authors of mysteries, suspense and romance novels from around the country.

Cherry said A Taste of Tidewater will give the arts center a chance to show off the talents of local artists to people from all over the country who will arrive for the Mystery Authors Festival.

“Since people are there from all over, we wanted to showcase local talent for them while they’re here.”
