Edna Shoemaker West Ives

Edna Shoemaker West Ives, 93, graduated to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Aug. 22, 2015.
Edna was born in Iredell County, N.C., and married Troy West. They moved in 1939 to Portsmouth, where they raised two sons. She and her family were active members of Alexander Park Baptist Church for many years. After Troy’s death, Edna married E.D. Ives and lived in Virginia Beach until Mr. Ives retired. They built their new home in Suffolk and became active members of First Baptist Church for 35 years. Edna will be remembered for her thoughtfulness to others and her skills in cooking and sewing and as a loving wife and mother.
She is survived by her sons, Tom West (Dorothy), of Lafayette, La., Larry West (Linda), of Midlothian; stepchildren, Louis Ives (Barbara), of Inverness, Fla., Kathy Rust, of Norfolk; brothers, Earnest Shumaker (Blanch), Roy Shoemaker; and a host of grandchildren and many extended family members.
The family will be gathering this evening with friends for her viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. at R.W. Baker and Company Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk. Her going home celebration will be conducted at the First Baptist Church, 237 N. Main St., Suffolk, on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015, at 11 a.m. Edna will be interred at Greenlawn Memorial Park in a private ceremony with only family to attend.
