The Grassfield High School golf team defeated Lakeland High School on Monday at Nansemond River Golf Club, but the Cavaliers continued to shave strokes off their team score.

Against Hickory High School on Aug. 13, Lakeland posted a score of 501, and against Deep Creek High School on Aug. 18, Lakeland produced a score of 463.

On Monday, the Cavs’ aggregate score was 418. The Grizzlies finished comfortably ahead with a score of 298, but Lakeland had good reason to be encouraged after following up its initial 38-stroke improvement with a 45-stroke advancement.

The medalist of the match was Grassfield’s Garret Swanger with a score of 69.

The Cavaliers face Nansemond River High School on Thursday at Cahoon Plantation Golf Club.
