Firefighters responded Friday morning to a commercial structure fire at Producers Peanuts in the 300 block of Moore Avenue in downtown Suffolk.
The blaze was reported at 5:41 a.m., and the first units arrived on scene at 5:46 a.m., according to a city press release.
Firefighters found flames showing through the roof at the rear of the production area of the facility, according to the release. The fire involved processed peanut hulls and skins. An evacuation wasn’t necessary because the business hadn’t started operations yet for the day.

Responding units included Engines 1, 2 and 3, Ladders 3 and 6, EMS-1, Rescue 1, Medics 1A and 6A, Battalion 1 and the Fire Marshal.
Suffolk Police provided traffic control at the scene. Moore Avenue at Pinner Street will be closed for at least the next several hours and detours are in place.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
