Shirley Garland Turner Waller, “80,” of Suffolk, died unexpectedly Sept. 1, 2015. She was the daughter of the late Isabell R. and William Turner. She was predeceased by a son, Stephen Tazewell Waller; sisters, Beulah Turner, Christine Leighton, Faye Lawhorn; and brothers, William, J.P., Durwood and Kenneth Turner.

Mrs. Waller, known by most as “Maw Maw,” was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and the church choir. She served as a Sunday School teacher, president of Episcopal Church Women, the Vestry, and the Altar Guild.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Roy Franklin Waller; daughters, Deborah Waller Robertson (Ron), of Suffolk, Diane Waller Liles (Stephen), of Chesapeake; sons, David Franklin Waller (Tamara), of Smithfield, and Daniel Page Waller (Donna), of Suffolk; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Newcomb, of Lynchburg; and numerous adopted family members.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Sept. 4, 2015, at noon, in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church by the Rev. Dr. Keith Emerson. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Burial will be at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Suffolk or to the Boys’ Home of Virginia in Covington. Condolences may be registered at www.RWBakerFH.com.
