Saul Junie Bailey

Saul Junie Bailey, 87, entered into eternal slumber on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015. Saul, affectionately known as “June,” was born on June 4, 1928, to the late Elnora Stringfield and Sol Bailey in Zuni.

Saul retired from Newport News Shipyard after more than 30 years of service. He also was a staff attendant at T.E. Cooke-Overton Funeral Home Inc. until his health began to fail.

Saul was an active and devoted member for more than 50 years of East End Baptist Church, where he served in the Senior Choir and was a Sunday School teacher, trustee, and deacon emeritus.

He was a member of Star of Sharon Mason.

Saul was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys G. Bailey. He leaves behind to celebrate his life and cherish his memory, two sons, Ronnie (Terry) and Leon (Addie); brother, Randall Bailey (Ann); three sisters, Betty Jean, Jenny (Melvin) and Brenda (Matthew); brother-in-law, Booker Patterson; four grandchildren, Tiffany (Will), Ronnie, Shawn (Shanell) and Antwan (Alexis); a very special goddaughter, Stephanie Mebane (Ed); and many other family members and friends.

Mr. Bailey’s visitation will take place from noon to 5 p.m., and a wake service will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. A celebration of life service will take place at noon on Friday at East End Baptist Church, and he will be laid to rest with military and Masonic honors at Nansemond Suffolk Cemetery.
