A Suffolk woman is charged with child neglect after her 4-year-old was found wandering near a retention pond.

Police were called Saturday just after 10 a.m. to the 400 block of Teton Circle, according to city spokeswoman Diana Klink. The child had been found wandering by himself near a retention pond. The child was not injured.

Preliminary investigation found the mother had left the residence while the child was asleep alone in the house. She went to two different shopping centers while she was out, Klink said.

Laniece Deshawn Wilson, 33, is charged with abuse and neglect of children and cruelty and injuries to children, Klink said. Child Protective Services has been notified.
