The fourth annual Night Out for Africa fundraiser next Saturday will raise money for a mission team’s outreach at a Burkina Faso village and repairs and upgrades for a school there.
“When we’re there, we’re going to be pretty much spreading the gospel, telling stories about Jesus and explaining God’s love to people,” said Chanel Rasmussen, a member of the team.
The team of seven will be in Burkina Faso’s Fulani village Oct. 28 to Nov. 7. The ministry has been supporting the village and the Good News Academy there for several years.
“We help put children, mostly Muslim children, through this Christian school,” Rasmussen said. “A lot of the funds we get through this event is going to repair and upgrade the school. They will need new chairs and books and things like that.”
The Sept. 26 event will be an Italian food festival. Dinner will feature soups, salad and a bar of homemade pasta.
A bake sale will take place to purchase Bibles for the children in the Good News Academy. Silent and live auctions also will take place, with items such as oil paintings and photography sessions up for grabs.
A time of worship and updates on the ministry in Burkina Faso also will take place.
The event is set for 6 to 9 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 237 N. Main St.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased ahead of time or at the door. Donations of auction items or monetary donations — it costs only $75 to sponsor a child in the Good News Academy for an entire year — are welcome from those who are unable to attend.
