G. Carlton Leonard Sr., 78, passed away Sept. 27, 2015. He was born in Carson, the son of the late Glyde T. and Hazel K. Leonard. He was predeceased by his brother, Melvin T. Leonard. Carlton formerly owned Oak Ridge Pharmacy. He also worked for Rite-Aid in Suffolk and retired after 53 years as a pharmacist. He was a member of Wilroy Baptist Church and was active in numerous civic organizations. Carlton was a member of the Suffolk Masonic Lodge No. 38, a life member, past state president and past exalted ruler of the Suffolk Elks Lodge No. 685. He was also a member of the Portsmouth Scottish Rites, the Norfolk Khedive Temple, and Franklin and Suffolk Shrine Club.
Carlton is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy B. Leonard; daughters, Sharon L. Adkison and husband, Wendell, Anne Leonard Coggsdale; son, Gene C. Leonard Jr. and wife, Barbara; grandchildren, Jason, Shannon, Benjamin, Russell (Tiffany), Matthew (Rachel), Wendell III, Christopher and Brittany; great-grandchildren, Kylie, Zachary, Beachlynn, Lilley, Blakely, Shane and Raelynn; and numerous other family members and friends.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory with the Rev. Robert Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow at Nansemond Suffolk Cemetery.
