Player of the Week nominees

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

  • Tyquan Holloman, freshman for Lakeland High School football: He had strong showings in both of the Cavaliers’ games last week. In Monday’s 30-13 road win over Deep Creek High School, he had six completions for 118 yards and a touchdown, and he also ran for a score. Despite Friday’s 33-7 home loss to King’s Fork High School, he still had 13 completions for 110 yards and a score and 38 yards rushing.
  • Livi Bono, junior for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy volleyball: She contributed to a 3-0 week by leading her team with 43 kills. In Thursday’s 3-0 road win over Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School, she had 11 kills, seven aces and 13 digs. In Tuesday’s 3-0 home win over Norfolk Collegiate School, she had 12 kills and two aces. In Monday’s 3-0 home win over Southampton High School, she had 20 kills.
  • Deshaun Wethington, senior for King’s Fork High School football: Across two games this past week, he ran for 503 yards and seven touchdowns. In Monday’s 39-9 road win over Great Bridge High School, he had 15 carries for 289 yards and five touchdowns. In Friday’s 33-7 road win over Lakeland High School, he had 25 carries for 214 yards and two scores. For the week, he averaged 12.6 yards per carry.
