Clinic names board members

The Western Tidewater Free Clinic has announced the appointment of three new board members.

From varied backgrounds and professions, the new members bring valuable expertise in the clinic’s eighth year of operations to provide health care to uninsured, economically disadvantaged adults across the Western Tidewater region, according to a press release.

Tim Palmer is a Suffolk attorney recognized as an authority on elder law in the state of Virginia and is also a certified public accountant. Prior to completing his law degree at the College of William and Mary, he was enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He opened his practice, Elder Law Solutions, in North Suffolk in 2005. Palmer is a speaker on elder law issues and is also a member of various professional and community service organizations. As a business owner, Mr. Palmer brings many years of experience and knowledge of accounting, marketing and responsible decision-making that will directly benefit the clinic and its patients. He and his wife, Hope, live in North Suffolk with their two sons.

Dr. Sharon L. Sheffield has been a physician in Franklin for nearly 20 years. She is a member of the medical staff at Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin and Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk, and practices at OB/GYN Physicians, Inc., part of Mid-Atlantic Women’s Care, P.L.C. in Franklin. She volunteers at the clinic in the Women’s Health Program and was named the clinic’s Medical Volunteer of the Year in 2015. She is committed to the mission of the clinic and hopes to help the Clinic reach more patients, especially in the more western regions of its service area. She resides in Southampton County.

Dr. Lynne W. Stockman is a family physician who has practiced in Suffolk for more than 20 years. She practices at North Suffolk Family Medicine, part of Bayview Physicians Group, and is active in her community, church and various professional associations. She was among the founding visionaries that opened the clinic and assisted in securing needed equipment and provided medical advice. She has volunteered at the clinic for many years and was named the clinic’s Medical Volunteer of the Year in 2014. Her husband, Buster, is a retired chaplain and also volunteers at the clinic. They have three children and reside in Suffolk.

The mission of Western Tidewater Free Clinic is to provide high-quality, non-emergency health care to the residents of Suffolk, Franklin, Isle of Wight and Southampton who cannot otherwise afford it. The clinic serves individuals between the ages of 19 and 64 with no medical insurance who live at or below twice the federal poverty level.
