A Suffolk man was sentenced Thursday to 10 years to serve for his part in a 2013 shooting.
Taquan Deandra Burton, 21, was sentenced on charges of aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, shoot or stab in the commission of a felony, and nonviolent felon possessing a gun within 10 years — pleaded down from possessing a gun as a violent felon.
Burton shot at a 20-year-old male victim about 10:40 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2013, in the 300 block of Wellons Street, police said at the time. He required surgery at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
His mother also was convicted in the crime because she told him to do it, according to testimony that has been presented in court. Gwendolyn Lee Burton-Green, 42, was sentenced last year to 14 years in prison.
