Margaret Hewlett Moore

Margaret Hewlett Moore, 91, passed away Nov. 9, 2015. She was born Oct. 15, 1924, in Richmond. Margie graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1942 and Longwood College in 1946. She began her lifelong teaching career in Suffolk Public Schools in 1946 and taught music to countless students until her retirement in 1982. She was predeceased by her husband, William Elmer Austin Moore.

She is survived by her daughters, Margaret (Peggy) Moore and Martha Moore Turner and her husband, Kirk. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Margaret (Meg) Blackburn and her husband, Percy, and Benjamin (Ben) Turner; and two great-grandchildren, True and Lilly; as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews and cousins.

Margie was a member and past state president of the D.A.R. She was an active member and choir member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. She had a lifelong passion for bridge and especially her bridge club of more than 65 years. Her friends were numerous and of all ages, as she enjoyed life to the fullest.

Several years ago, Margie moved back to Richmond, where she enjoyed meeting new friends and connecting with many friends from high school and college and her special group of friends from Ginter Park Elementary. She continued to share her love of music at both Chesterfield Heights Retirement and Morningside Assisted Living.

A funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Suffolk on Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, at 11 a.m. with the Rev Keith Emerson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parish hall. A viewing will held at the church from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Burial will follow the reception at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
