One of America’s founding fathers will talk about the Constitution at Lake Prince Woods this Friday.
Historical scholar and interpreter Bill Chrystal will bring Alexander Hamilton to life as he presents “The Truth About the Constitution” at 7 p.m. at 100 Anna Goode Way. The event is free and open to the public.
“It’s an interactive program,” Chrystal said of his presentation. “Hamilton will talk for a while, and then he’ll let people ask whatever questions they want to ask.”
Chrystal is a Navy veteran and retired United Church of Christ pastor. For 12 years, he was the host of the nationally syndicated radio program “The Thomas Jefferson Hour,” and he is also a leading scholar and interpreter of Alexander Hamilton and John Adams.
Chrystal said the topics on which Hamilton was a leader during his lifetime are still relevant today and frequently come up during the question-and-answer period.
“It couldn’t be more in the center of what a lot of people are thinking about: What did the founders intend? Does the government we have today reflect what they had in mind?” Chrystal said.
Hamilton as portrayed by Chrystal frequently gets questions about the country’s economics and national debt, Chrystal said.
“In the last several years, usually people are interested in our economic system, which Hamilton established, and the amount of debt we have in this country,” Chrystal said.
National security is another important topic, Chrystal said.
“Security is once again on the minds of people,” he said. “For Hamilton, national security was a very important concern as well.”
Chrystal said he always enjoys coming to Suffolk, particularly to Lake Prince Woods. He also has performed at the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts.
“It’s a wonderful place,” he said. “It’s always a treat.”
