George “Algie” Barrett, 76, of Suffolk passed away on Nov. 26, 2015. He was the son of the late Frank and Susie Barrett.

Mr. Barrett retired as a Sergeant with the Suffolk Police Department with 26 years of service. He also worked for the Suffolk Sherriff’s Department for five years. Mr. Barrett served in the United States Army in the 8th & 82nd Airborne, and loved his time in the military.

He is survived by his wife, Marie B. Barrett; daughter, Kim Krochmal and husband, Bob, of Hertford, N.C.; stepsons, Joseph Britt and wife, Janet, and Mark Britt and wife, Connie, both of Suffolk; grandchildren, Lee and Cody Krochmal, and Austin and Tyler Britt; sister, Alice Whitfield and husband, Whit; brother, Judd Barrett and wife, Gloria; and special cousins, Bill, Hilda and Sue.

A funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Allen Lancaster at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St.. There will be a time of visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow with military honors at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
