The Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a dozen incidents that took place early Monday, including the theft of a 2004 Nissan from a home in Carrollton.
The incidents were isolated to the Bridgewater and Greystone subdivisions along Route 17 in Carrollton, according to a news release from Lt. Tommy Potter of the sheriff’s office.
Deputies were called to the area after a homeowner discovered that his vehicle had been entered and several items removed, Potter said. Additional reports quickly came in, and patrol deputies conducted a canvass of the neighborhoods and discovered several other vehicles had been entered and items taken.
A black, 2004 Nissan Armada with Virginia handicap license plate J18996 was reported stolen from the 13000 block of Ashley Park Court in Carrollton, according to Potter. A second vehicle at that location was also tampered with and had items removed.
Most of the vehicles involved in the larcenies are believed to have been left unlocked, according to Potter.
“The Sheriff’s Office wants to remind citizens to lock their car doors and to remove items of value from vehicles at night or when left unattended,” Potter stated. “It is especially important to remain vigilant to secure or remove items during the holiday season, as thieves will often target neighborhoods looking for recently purchased gifts or other valuables.”
