It’s time to deck the halls and trim the town with festive holiday bling.

This year, Cross Realty is tossing in an extra incentive for people who bedazzle their homes with Christmas lights: The chance to win $250 toward January’s power bill. The community will select the winner using Facebook “like” votes, said Lee Cross.

“We thought this would be a fun way to spread the holiday spirit through the community,” Cross said.

To enter, people should decorate their homes and yards and take pictures of the final product, Cross said. The pictures should be sent via private message to Cross Realty’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/CrossRealty.

The firm will post all photos on its Facebook page, and the house that gets the most “likes” by Jan. 2 wins, he said. Winners will be posted Jan. 3 on the company’s Facebook page.

The pictures can either be video or still formats, Cross said. Winners must live in the houses in their photographs, and the homes must be in Hampton Roads. All entries should include addresses and contact information, he said.

A panel of “judges” — specifically, his daughters, Margaret Laney, Kathryn and Elizabeth, ages 5, 3 and 8 months respectively — will pick a second-prize winner for the Judges’ Choice award, Cross said.

That winner will receive $150 for the family’s electric bill.
