A fatal accident near the Hampton Roads Executive Airport has shut down westbound travel on Route 58 at the intersection with I-664.

Chesapeake police were called to the scene of an accident involving a motorcycle and another vehicle at 12:35 p.m. Saturday in the 5100 block of West Military Highway.

The adult male driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene, police stated in a press release. The adult female drive of the other vehicle was transported to Maryview Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Virginia Department of Transportation officials reported at 1:45 p.m. that all westbound travel lanes of U.S. Route 58 had been closed, along with the northbound and southbound ramps to U.S. 58 West from I-664.

The accident is under investigation, and officials urged motorists to use alternate routes and call 511 on their cellphones for updates.
