Player of the Week nominees

Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

Josh Covington, senior for Nansemond River High School basketball: He had an incredible week to open the 2015-16 season, producing 97 points, 15 rebounds, 11 assists and 11 steals across three games. He scored 25 points against host Oscar Smith High School and 36 the next night against host Ocean Lakes High School. On Friday, he had 36 more against visiting Deep Creek High School.

Neecole Brown, freshman for King’s Fork High School basketball: She has made a significant splash in her first games at the varsity level, contributing to the Lady Bulldogs’ 2-0 week. In Friday’s 68-35 road victory over Indian River High School, she led her team with 17 points. In Tuesday’s 70-41 road win against Hickory High School, she again led her team with 17 points.

Deonta Knight, senior for Lakeland High School basketball: He continued to provide the steady leadership that has been his trademark. In the Cavaliers’ 71-54 home victory over Western Branch High School on Tuesday, he supplied 14 points and 12 rebounds. Despite the Cavs’ 71-55 home loss on Friday to Oscar Smith High School, he had 13 points, 12 boards, four assists and two steals.
